SLOW THINKING, JANUARY 1-31, 2026

"Our relationship with our families, within our households, and with our next-door neighbors, are a louder preaching of the faith we profess, and of the kind of person that we are. They are better markers to our quality and credibility than our degrees and qualifications; and a better measure of our social and community standing more than our backers and connections."

"When we feel alone and abandoned, it's us forgetting that there is always Someone rooting for us, believing in us, and supporting us all the way. We need only to open our eyes and hearts, and call upon that love that always sustains and guides. Like a free-solo climber whose brain was wired to not feel fear in extremely dangerous situations, may we rewire our thinking to always hold on in hope, to stay calm amidst tragedies and calamities, and be confident that whatever we are going through, our Heavenly Father, and the people He sends our way, are always there, inspiring, encouraging, pushing us forward and up."

"Nobody is self-made. We are what we are, we became the persons that we are because of the Creator and Heavenly Father's mercy and grace, and because of the support of the people He sends our way. May we always be thankful and humble, grateful for the blessing, and always giving our best to make life and this world better for others too."

"Congratulations to life's survivors, small and great. May we all acknowledge the hand of our God in giving us hope, and in molding us to be the kind of people we need to be, in every situation, in every season."

"Our legacy of faith is not to proclaim that we are in the right, that everybody should believe what we believe in, and that they should follow the lifestyle that we preach. It is to have the mind of our Lord Jesus Christ, who loved the poor and downtrodden and condemned the severe financial and physical extraction of them by so-called religious leaders, who preached about paying our taxes and obeying the earthly authorities even as we live as citizens of His kingdom, who preached love and acceptance even as He preached living above the norms and cultures and expectations of this world, who preached contentment and trust in the Heavenly Father's provisions and grace even as we face its challenges and difficulties, who humbled Himself to the point of the cross because of preaching a different mindset and kingdom than the earthly political and economic ones we know, and who promised wisdom to the simple, encouraged perseverance to the patient, and assured an eternal inheritance to the meek and the faithful."

"Through all of life's trials and hardships, ups and downs, we keep holding on to God--for strength and wisdom, for clarity and humility, for patience and perseverance. Until the tides turn, and we get the just rewards we deserve."

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT (January 08, 2026):

"I'll say again what I've said a thousand times before. Our high school teacher said that in high school, our characters are shaped. In college, we are disciplined for work and life. Because yes, in college, we do not only come to school to learn, because in this day and age, we can learn anywhere and in whatever means. But when one decides to pursue a tertiary degree, it means we are willing to be trained and disciplined on the careers that we intend to take, and the attitude and ethics necessary for a holistic and functional work, and good and responsible living. If we think we know a lot and have no need for people to discipline us to a mold that suits our chosen path, it is better not to go to college at all and just go to find a job immediately after high school. But if in humility, we decide that we still need the skills and the connections our teachers can introduce us to, then we should prove we can get a degree in good faith, in fairness and honesty, in utmost respect and responsibility."

"It's cliche, tiresome because it's honest and true: we deserve the kind of leaders we get, we deserve the kind of life we give--in both plenty and hardship. May we choose wisely, remain humble and grounded, circumspect, discerning and wise."
